Abstract

It is pointed out theoretically that fiber acousto-optic mode coupling can occur between the higher-order modes with adjacent azimuthal numbers. Selective fiber mode conversion from LP to LP, and then to LP or LP is demonstrated experimentally in a few-mode fiber by using a method of cascaded acousto-optic mode coupling © 2006 Optical Society of America.
